What is the IMAX Experience? 

IMAX is the ultimate movie-going experience. IMAX is known for delivering an unsurpassed clarity and impact in their pictures, providing audiences with an opportunity to experience the magic & excitement of a multitude of different subjects. With screens up to eight stories tall and 120 feet wide, surrounded by 14,000 watts of pure digital sound, The IMAX Experience makes you feel like you are in the movie. 

IMAX Film Size & Projectors--  The sheer size of an IMAX film frame, combined with the unique IMAX projection technology, is key to the extraordinary sharpness and clarity of the images projected in IMAX theatres.  The film frame is ten times larger than a conventional 35mm film frame.  IMAX projectors are the most advanced, powerful and highest-precision projectors in the world, and the key to their performance is the proprietary "Rolling Loop" film movement which advances the film horizontally in a smooth, wave-like motion.  

What is IMAX DMR?

IMAX has redefined the movie-going experience with IMAX DMR (digitally re-mastered), a patented, revolutionary technology that allows live-action films to be transformed into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience.

The process starts by converting a 35mm frame into digital form at a very high resolution, capturing all the detail from the original.  The proprietary software mathematically analyzes and extracts the important image elements in each frame from the original structure to create a pristine copy of the original photography. To create the brightness and clarity that audiences have come to expect from the IMAX Experience, IMAX uses a proprietary computer program.  

The DMR (digitally re-mastered) film is then transferred onto the world's largest film format, 15 perforations by 70mm.  In addition, the film's original soundtrack is recreated for IMAX's powerful multi-speaker sound system, which further enhances the movie-going experience and helps put you into the picture.
